Plain-text file
Before you start: Your export is saved as a plain-text file. Keep it on your own device and delete it the moment your import into Simply Once is finished.
Format .csv Saves to Folder you choose You’ll need Desktop app + Master password

Open the desktop app
Open the Dashlane desktop app and sign in.

Open the File menu
Click File in the top menu bar.

Choose Export to CSV
Choose Export, then Unsecured archive in CSV format.

Enter your master password
Enter your Master Password when prompted.

Save the file
Click Export and pick a safe location to save the file.

Wait for confirmation
You’ll see a confirmation once the export finishes.
Good to know. Dashlane only lets you export from the desktop app — not the browser extension or mobile app.
Keep the file safe
- This file lists every saved password in the clear — treat it like cash.
- Delete it the moment your import into Simply Once is done.
- Never email it or upload it to cloud storage.
- Don’t share the file with anyone.
- Use Shift + Delete on Windows, or empty your Trash on a Mac, so it can’t be recovered.
Frequently asked questions
Is the exported file encrypted?
No. The export is plain text — anyone who opens it can read every entry. Delete it as soon as your import into Simply Once is done.
Will exporting remove my passwords from Dashlane?
No. Exporting makes a copy. Your saved passwords stay in Dashlane.
What should I do with the file after I import it?
Delete it permanently. Use Shift + Delete on Windows or empty your Trash on a Mac so it can’t be recovered.
Which format does Simply Once accept?
CSV works for every guide here.
Once it’s in Simply Once, your vault is end-to-end encrypted. That exported file isn’t — delete it as soon as your import is done.
